Hunt Starts for Mars Rover Landing Sites

Scientists have begun eyeing dozens of prospective landing spots for two Mars robots set to wheel across the Martian landscape in early 2004. The twin Mars Exploration Rovers are outfitted with special gear to search for evidence of liquid water that may have been present in the planet’s past. The first of a series of landing-site workshops is to be held late next month at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California.
