Mars Robot Gears Up for Arctic Test Space.com

A robot with enough energy to stay out all night is bound for the largest uninhabited island on Earth this summer to see if it has the right stuff for roaming the poles of Mars or the Moon. The experimental Hyperion robot, built partly from mountain bike parts in a $1 million project, is designed to seek sunlight that feeds a solar panel on its back. Hyperion and its pit crew from Carnegie Mellon University will spend two weeks on remote Devon Island above the Arctic Circle in Nunavut, Canada, starting July 10.
