As the United States edges towards war over Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction, it is also proposing spending billions of dollars developing nuclear rockets for space. Dubbed Prometheus, the project could lead to nuclear power tripling the speed of spacecraft, potentially cutting a manned Mars voyage to just two months.
