Plastic bricks built for Martian habitats Environmental News Network
Using a mix of unusual sand from Minnesota and ordinary polymer plastic, researchers are learning to create a type of durable brick that may someday house people and equipment on the inhospitable surface of Mars. Richard Keifer, head of the chemistry department at William and Mary College, said if the Red Planet should ever be explored by humans, he expects the types of bricks he’s developing with NASA scientists to be used in constructing habitats.
