John Carpenter, director of the upcoming SF thriller film Ghosts of Mars, told SCI FI Wire that he derived the idea for the Red Planet’s possessed human savages from primitive Earth cultures. “Science fiction is a mirror,” Carpenter said in an interview. “So anything in the future’s got to resonate with us here.
