On 24 June, the first reconnaissance team of the Mars Society’s Mars Arctic Research Station (MARS) project set off to the Arctic to join the 1999 field expedition of the NASA-lead Haughton-Mars Project (HMP), a Mars analog research program focused on the study of the Haughton impact crater and surroundings on Devon Island, Nunavut Territory, Canadian High Arctic. The HMP is lead by Dr. Pascal Lee, National Research Council Research Associate at NASA Ames Research Center and Chair of the Mars Society’s Mars Arctic Research Station (MARS) Task Force.
