A bone loss, kidney-stone study at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas one day could be subjected to the Mars’ test. As NASA prepares for what’s expected to be a more than two-year mission to Mars and back, UT Southwestern’s research on the drug Relyte recently was one of 86 projects nationwide to receive funding from the National Space Biomedical Research Institute in Houston. UT Southwestern will use its $465,000 to evaluate the effectiveness of the drug as a potential countermeasure to the adverse effects of weightlessness in space.
