NASA Funds Research to Minimize Astronauts’ Cancer Risk

After returning home from Mars, future astronauts will be observed carefully for hints of developing cancer, though understanding how increased exposure to space radiation might trigger the disease in some but not others is still anyone’s guess. To find the answer, NASA has awarded a $9.7 million grant to Colorado State University of Fort Collins, Colo., where the school is setting up a NASA Specialized Center of Research.
