Hard Work, No Pay, Eternal Glory – FMARS Volunteer FAQ Mars Society

The deadline to apply as a volunteer for the Flashline Station is fast approaching. The application deadline is January 31. The Mars Society is requesting volunteers to participate as members of the crew of the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station during an extended simulation of human Mars exploration operations on Devon Island during the summer of 2001. It is anticipated that the field season will run from late June through late August; volunteers should state during what segments of this span they are available. Both volunteer investigators who bring a new proposed program of research compatible with the objectives of Flashline Station, and volunteers simply wishing to participate as crew members supporting ongoing investigations will be considered.

Destination Mars The Advocate

Carl Carlsson wants to go to Mars. And no, the little green men aren’t inviting him via brain waves he picks up through an aluminum foil hat. For the record, Carlsson is an environmental engineer in Lake Charles and has never been abducted by aliens. Carlsson of Sulphur is president of the Louisiana chapter of the Mars Society, a 2-year-old organization claiming more than 3,000 members worldwide — one of them former astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The group’s goal is to land astronauts on the Red Planet in 10 years.

Veep Debate Compared to Ali-Frazier AP

For Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, it was the “Thrilla in Manilla,” an epic boxing match in 1975 that was one of the most savage bouts in history. For Joseph Lieberman and Dick Cheney, it was the “Thrill in the ‘Ville.” At least that’s the way host Centre College saw Thursday’s vice presidential debate. There were people opposed to something – new Interstate highways, sweatshops, cruelty to animals, gun violence, the death penalty, abortion. A few favored things, notably manned exploration of Mars. “The time has come to go to Mars,” said Lyle Kelly of the Mars Society. “Mankind seems to do its best when we have a challenge.”
